Preparation

The procedure
Before the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin, then the product is injected into specific muscles with a very fine needle. The effect begins on average within 7–14 days: the muscle stops contracting or contracts noticeably less, and the wrinkles smooth out.
How the procedure works
In aesthetic medicine, botulinum toxin is used in very small doses: the product is purified and diluted with saline. It acts only on the muscles into which it was injected, without affecting the others. It is cleared from the body naturally.
Masseter muscles
Botox in the masseter helps slim the lower face in a round or square face shape. The muscles begin to relax within 3–5 days, decrease in volume by 2–3 weeks, and the facial contour becomes more oval. The effect lasts from six months to 12 mo.
Excessive sweating
For underarm hyperhidrosis, the product is injected under the skin and blocks the signals to the sweat glands. The result is noticeable within a few days, and the effect lasts from a couple of months to a year. No recovery period is needed.

Result and follow-up
You can return to your everyday activities right after the procedure. To make the effect last as long as possible, it’s important to follow the doctor’s recommendations.

Risks
The injections are done with very fine needles, so virtually no marks are left on the skin. Redness that resolves within a few hours is possible, as well as bruising, swelling, and tenderness that disappear within a few days. Resistance to botulinum toxin occasionally occurs: this is an individual trait of the body, in which case the effect will be minimal or absent.
Contraindications
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, inflammation or skin damage in the injection area, acute illnesses, and certain neurological and other chronic conditions may be grounds to forgo the procedure or postpone it. The doctor makes this decision after a consultation.
