How a neck lift works

Four stages — from the initial assessment to the follow-up check. You’ll know in advance how the preparation, surgery, and recovery unfold.

  1. 1

    Preliminary assessment by the doctor

Send photos and describe the changes you’d like. The doctor will assess your anatomy and the possible scope of correction. An online consultation with the doctor is also available.

  2. 2

    Consultation and preparation in Istanbul

Before surgery, you’ll have an in-person consultation with the doctor and the necessary preoperative workup — its scope depends on the type of surgery and anesthesia.

    Preparation and tests

During the consultation, the doctor assesses the condition of the skin, muscles, and fat in the neck and chin and determines which technique, or combination of techniques, is right for you.

Before surgery, lab tests are done at the clinic and you have a consultation with the anesthesiologist. Let the doctor know in advance about any chronic conditions, medications you take, and past surgeries — this helps plan the procedure safely.

  3. 3

    Surgery

A neck lift takes 1–2 hours on average. The incisions are made in the least visible places — in the crease under the chin and behind the ears — and for liposuction small skin punctures are used. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the patient may be discharged the same day or stay overnight at the clinic under medical supervision.

    During the surgery

    Cervicoplasty

Removal of excess skin on the neck.

    Platysmaplasty

Tightening of the neck muscle (platysma) — when excess skin is combined with muscle laxity.

    Neck and chin liposuction

Removal of excess fat through small skin punctures.

These techniques can be used alone or in combination. When the main cause is a buildup of fat, it can be removed with liposuction. In older patients with excess skin and tissue laxity, the correction is performed through incisions under the chin and, in some cases, behind the ears. A neck lift can be done as a standalone procedure or together with a facelift.

  4. 4

    Recovery

For the first 5 days you wear a compression dressing; recovery during this time continues at the hotel, and the assistants stay in touch with you. On day 7, the doctor performs a follow-up check.

    1–5

Compression dressing and recovery at the hotel following the doctor’s instructions. Swelling and bruising can be a normal part of recovery.

    7

The final check before you leave. By this point any drains that were placed have already been removed, dressings have been changed and stitches taken out. The doctor makes sure that healing is going normally and there are no signs of complications.

Risks and contraindicationsPatient safety is the priority at every stage. Before the procedure, the doctor assesses the patient’s health.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, a neck lift carries possible risks, including bleeding, hematoma, infection, swelling, temporary changes in sensation, asymmetry, variations in scar healing, and other individual responses. In some cases, an additional correction may be needed. The possible risks are discussed with the patient before surgery.

Contraindications

Acute illnesses and inflammatory conditions, blood-clotting disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain chronic conditions may be grounds for postponing surgery or for further evaluation. The decision on whether surgery can proceed is made by the doctors after assessing the patient’s health.

Questions and answers

Ask a question →
How much does the surgery cost?

The cost is calculated individually. The doctor provides it after reviewing your photos. Send them on WhatsApp — you’ll receive a plan and the full price.

When will the swelling go down?

Swelling and bruising are an expected part of recovery. A compression dressing is worn for the first 5 days; how quickly the swelling subsides varies from person to person — the doctor monitors your progress at the follow-up check.

Will the scars be visible?

Incisions are placed in the least visible areas — in the crease under the chin and behind the ears. With liposuction, only small skin punctures are made.

When can I return to work and sports?

Timing is individual and depends on how your recovery goes. The doctor will give you personal recommendations at the follow-up check and will stay in touch with you after you return home.

Can it be combined with a facelift?

Yes, a neck lift can be performed as a standalone procedure or together with a facelift.

How many days do I need to be in Istanbul?

For surgeries under general anesthesia we recommend 7–8 days in Istanbul — from arrival to the follow-up check; under local anesthesia, 2–3 days. The coordinator will agree exact dates with you after the doctor’s preliminary assessment.

When can I fly home?

After the follow-up check on day 7. The doctor clears you to go home once he’s confident your recovery is on track.
