What otoplasty involves

Four stages — from the initial assessment to the follow-up check. You’ll know in advance how the preparation, surgery, and recovery unfold.

  1. 1

    Preliminary assessment by the doctor

Send photos and describe the changes you’d like. The doctor will assess your anatomy and the possible scope of correction. An online consultation with the doctor is also available.

  2. 2

    Consultation and preparation in Istanbul

Before surgery, you’ll have an in-person consultation with the doctor and the necessary preoperative workup — its scope depends on the type of surgery and anesthesia.

    Preparation and tests

Before your trip, the coordinator will send a short list: which medications to stop in advance, what to bring, and how to prepare for the flight.

In Istanbul, before surgery, you have an in-person consultation and pre-operative workup. The doctor examines your ears, and together you agree on the shape and position to be changed. If your test results suggest the surgery is better postponed, you’ll know in advance.

  3. 3

    Surgery

Otoplasty takes 1–2 hours on average. The doctor chooses the type of anesthesia individually and discusses it with you beforehand. After surgery, you stay one night at the clinic under medical supervision.

    During the surgery

To reshape the cartilage, the doctor makes an incision on the back of the ear, removes part of the cartilage, and secures the new shape with internal sutures. The incision is closed with a cosmetic suture, hidden behind the ear.

A dressing is applied right after surgery. Once it’s removed, you switch to a special ear band — the doctor will tell you how long to wear it at your follow-up check.

  4. 4

    Recovery

After discharge, recovery continues at your hotel, and the assistants stay in touch with you. On day 7, the doctor performs a follow-up check.

    Recovery day by day
    0

After surgery: a dressing and one night at the clinic under medical supervision.

    1

A check before discharge, then transfer to your hotel. Swelling and tenderness around the ears can be a normal part of recovery.

    2–6

Recovery at the hotel wearing the dressing and following the doctor’s instructions.

    7

The final check before you leave. By this point any drains that were placed have already been removed, dressings have been changed and stitches taken out. The doctor makes sure that healing is going normally and there are no signs of complications. After that, a special ear band is used.

    Beyond that

You wear the special ear band for as long as the doctor prescribes. Scheduled photo check-ins let the doctor follow how your recovery is progressing.

Risks and contraindicationsPatient safety is the priority at every stage. Before the procedure, the doctor assesses the patient’s health.

Risks

Like any surgery, otoplasty carries potential risks, including bleeding, infection, swelling, temporary changes in sensation, asymmetry, and other individual reactions. In some cases, a further revision may be needed. Possible risks are discussed with you before surgery.

Contraindications

Acute illnesses and inflammation, including in the ear area, blood-clotting disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain chronic conditions may be grounds for postponing surgery or doing further testing. The decision on whether surgery can go ahead is made by the doctors after assessing your health.

Questions and answers

Ask a question →
How much does the surgery cost?

The cost is calculated individually. The doctor provides it after reviewing your photos. Send them on WhatsApp — you’ll receive a plan and the full price.

Will the scars be visible?

The incision is made on the back of the ear and closed with a cosmetic suture, so it stays hidden behind the ear.

How long do I wear the dressing?

A dressing is applied right after surgery, and once it’s removed you switch to a special ear band. The doctor will give you the exact timing at your follow-up check.

When can I return to work and sports?

Timing is individual and depends on how your recovery goes. The doctor will give you personal recommendations at the follow-up check and will stay in touch with you after you return home.

Can just the earlobe be corrected?

Yes, otoplasty is also done for a disproportionate earlobe — too small or too large. The doctor will determine the extent of the correction from your photos and at the in-person exam.

How many days do I need to be in Istanbul?

For surgeries under general anesthesia we recommend 7–8 days in Istanbul — from arrival to the follow-up check; under local anesthesia, 2–3 days. The coordinator will agree exact dates with you after the doctor’s preliminary assessment.

When can I fly home?

After the follow-up check on day 7. The doctor clears you to go home once he’s confident your recovery is on track.
