How a facelift works

Four stages — from the initial assessment to the follow-up check. You’ll know in advance how the preparation, surgery, and recovery unfold.

  1. 1

    Preliminary assessment by the doctor

Send photos and describe the changes you’d like. The doctor will assess your anatomy and the possible scope of correction. An online consultation with the doctor is also available.

  2. 2

    Consultation and preparation in Istanbul

Before surgery, you’ll have an in-person consultation with the doctor and the necessary preoperative workup — its scope depends on the type of surgery and anesthesia.

    Preparation and tests

At the consultation, the doctor assesses the condition of your skin and the deeper facial tissues, discusses your goals, and suggests the technique and extent of correction.

Before surgery, lab tests are done at the clinic and you have a consultation with the anesthesiologist. Let the doctor know in advance about any chronic conditions, medications you take, and past surgeries — this helps plan the procedure safely.

  3. 3

    Surgery

A facelift takes approximately 3–4 hours — the duration depends on the scope of the surgery and individual factors. The doctor will choose the technique and type of anesthesia after the examination. After surgery, the patient stays one night in the clinic under medical supervision.

    During the surgery

The doctor selects the technique individually, taking into account the condition of the skin, the deeper tissues, and the patient’s goals. The aim of the surgery is to address age-related changes and restore more defined facial contours without a “pulled” look.

A facelift can be performed on its own or together with a neck lift. The doctor will discuss the option of combining it with other procedures and the placement of incisions with you at the consultation.

  4. 4

    Recovery

After discharge, recovery continues at your hotel, and the assistants stay in touch with you. On day 7, the doctor performs a follow-up check.

    Recovery day by day
    0

Surgery and one night in the clinic under medical supervision.

    1

A check before discharge and the move to your hotel. Swelling and bruising can be a normal part of post-operative recovery.

    2–6

Recovery at the hotel while following the doctor’s recommendations.

    7

The final check before you leave. By this point any drains that were placed have already been removed, dressings have been changed and stitches taken out. The doctor makes sure that healing is going normally and there are no signs of complications.

    Beyond that

The swelling gradually subsides. The doctor will discuss with you individually the timeframe over which the final result takes shape.

Risks and contraindicationsPatient safety is the priority at every stage. Before the procedure, the doctor assesses the patient’s health.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, a facelift carries possible risks, including bleeding, hematoma, infection, swelling, temporary changes in sensation, asymmetry, variations in scar healing, and other individual reactions. In some cases, additional correction may be needed. The possible risks are discussed with the patient before surgery.

Contraindications

Acute illnesses and inflammatory conditions, blood-clotting disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain chronic conditions may be grounds for postponing surgery or for further evaluation. The decision on whether surgery can proceed is made by the doctors after assessing the patient’s health.

Questions and answers

Ask a question →
How much does the surgery cost?

The cost is calculated individually. The doctor provides it after reviewing your photos. Send them on WhatsApp — you’ll receive a plan and the full price.

When will the swelling go down?

Swelling and bruising are an expected part of recovery after a facelift. How quickly they subside depends on the extent of the surgery and individual factors; the doctor monitors your progress at the follow-up checks.

Will the scars be visible?

Incisions are planned so that scars fall in less visible areas. The doctor will discuss their exact placement in your case during the consultation.

When can I return to work and sports?

Timing is individual and depends on how your recovery goes. The doctor will give you personal recommendations at the follow-up check and will stay in touch with you after you return home.

Can it be combined with a neck lift?

Yes, a neck lift can be done on its own or together with a facelift. The decision is made during the consultation.

How many days do I need to be in Istanbul?

For surgeries under general anesthesia we recommend 7–8 days in Istanbul — from arrival to the follow-up check; under local anesthesia, 2–3 days. The coordinator will agree exact dates with you after the doctor’s preliminary assessment.

When can I fly home?

After the follow-up check on day 7. The doctor clears you to go home once he’s confident your recovery is on track.
